Summary
[edit]DescriptionMaxillate placoderms lateral view diagram.png |
English: A diagram showing the skulls and trunk armor of three maxillate placoderms from the late Silurian of China. Depicted in lateral view and not to scale. Skull plates with clear homology to the skull bones of osteichthyans (bony fish) are labelled with colors, while other plates are labelled with letters. Scleral ring ossicles are not labelled. Fine dotted lines indicate lateral line canals and coarse dotted lines indicate regions not preserved in available fossils. Fins and other soft tissue are not illustrated, though the pectoral fin socket is visible between the anterior lateral and anterior ventrolateral plates.
