| Description |
English: Maple Garage, Humbleton Moor, Humbleton, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Petrol station and garage on the south side of Moor Lane near the parish boundary between Humbleton and Sproatley. Prior to inclosure Humbleton Moor was a large area of common pasture, with rights to crop gorse and graze livestock let by the Crown in the 16th and 17th centuries. A forty acre piece of South Moor was inclosed by 1634 and the 219 acres known as Great Moor by 1709. Nowadays it's hard to imagine that the intensively farmed and fairly flat arable land in these parts was ever thought of as a moor. |
