Maria Weston Chapman thanks Robert Purvis for lending her a picture of William Lloyd Garrison. Since the sum contributed for the purpose was enough for a new picture, Chapman's friends advised her to have a side-view taken of Garrison. Chapman comments: "Some are disappointed in the result, & others much gratified." Chapman sends a copy of the Liberty Bell [for 1846], which contains this side-view as a frontispiece
