Samuel May, Jr. wishes William Lloyd Garrison a happy New Year, expressing his hopes that "peace and joy" find Garrison and his family wherever they may be. May thanks Garrison for his gift of "Singers and Songs", stating that he is already too much a debtor for the "handsome & frequent tokens of [Garrison's] friendship & affection". May states that he had regrettably already purchased a copy of the volume bequeathed to him by Garrison, but exclaims that he would be greatly pleased to exchange volumes with Garrison if the latter did not also own a personal copy
