Description
English: Lectric-Leopard Renault 5. The U.S. Electricar Company, based in Athol, Massachusetts, performed electric vehicle conversions on the Renault Le Car in in 1979 and 1980. The car came with a 48-volt, 18-horsepower Prestolite electric motor bolted to the R5's original clutch and manual gearbox with an adapter plate, an onboard charger, 16 six-volt lead-acid batteries weighing 600 pounds, and no electronics (just switches} giving the car a modest 50 to 60-mile range.
  • Photographed at the Rambler Ranch classic car museum located at 36370 Forest Trail, Elizabeth, CO 80107 -- see: https://www.ramblerranch.com. Visit to this outstanding car collection was part of the 2021 American Motors Owners (AMO) convention held in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
