Image tagging - chassis
[edit]- Hi again. Please add a new license to Image:Chassis with suspension and exhaust system.jpg, {{GPL}} is for software. Thank you. / Fred J 12:55, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I did not know that licensing was for software. How about this one {cc-by-sa-2.5} after all, it is a picture of a almost base chassis that I took and now others can use. I simply checked the My Own Work selection button and picked the suggested option in the drop down box. I am not very good at this licensing area. Bear with me. Please let me know if this is correct one to use. If it not, then please change it and let me know what I should use for the next time. Thanks - CZmarlin 21:41, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- It is fine. / Fred J 17:19, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Siebrand 21:24, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I added the tag for this drawing from "The Jeffery Four." (Kenosha, Wis.: Thomas B. Jeffery Co., published 191?), a 28-page pamphlet about the Jeffrey four-cylinder automobile - circa 1916. — CZmarlin 21:35, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
CZ, couple things: Firstly, the photo doesn't show what you say it shows; you need a new description. In fact, this photo shows a Carter BBD ("Ball & Ball Dual-throat") 2bbl carburetor, which saw wide use on Chrysler and AMC products. AMC didn't use the BBS ("Ball & Ball Single-throat") on the 258. They used the Holley 1931 and the Carter RBS ("Remote Bowl Single-throat"). Secondly, could you please give this image a much shorter, more tractable name? This what you've named it is like eBay's three-mile-long URLs. You needn't try to incorporate a whackload of keywords into the image title; images are easily and successfully searchable without this sort of diddling. This kind of lengthy title really makes a damnuisance when trying to incorporate the image into an article. A photo title really shouldn't need more than three words, four tops. Thanks. —Scheinwerfermann 03:39, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for pointing out my mistakes here — as well as the same text that you posted on my Wikipedia page. It helps to remind me of my wayward work! Yes, I am absolutely wrong about the one-barrel description, since it is a two-barrel model. Regarding the naming of files, I was using the image on the carburetor article as a template (1961 Ferrari 250 TR 61 Spyder Fantuzzi engine.jpg) that includes eight words, thus giving the image a description of almost everything except the color of the engine and the car! Once again, I am very sorry and thanks again for reminding me of my errors! As a more knowledgeable Wikipedian, I am sure you will now correct and change the name of this image file. Thanks — CZmarlin 17:30, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Developing a webpage
[edit]Hello, I'm Pawel Swiadr and I'm curently developing a webpage, intended to turn into a portal someday :), called dyfer.pl It is supposed to be a database on RWD vehicles, all post-war and currently produced. I find your photos very worthy for my project, and I can see you're of Polish origin. I'd be glad to get in touch with you, so don't hesitate to contact me at ps@dyfer.pl, or skype: pawel-swiader. All the best, PS.
1960 Rambler
[edit]Hello, I rescued my beloved 1960 AMC Rambler from the scrapyard and I am in need of parts, especially trim clips. I live in Middletown, NJ.
If you can help I would be very greatful.
Thanks John
johnswishlist@yahoo.com
- John, Thanks for your posting and question. It is good to know that you have saved your 1960 AMC Rambler! You can find a very supportive AMC hobby with owners and parts vendors that will help you out. I would suggest you contact the national clubs because they may have a chapter close to you.
- They will also list numerous parts vendors. One that I have done lots of business and been very happy is Kennedy American, but there are others. You should also attend an AMC/Rambler car show. You will find other similar models to yours and swap hints and stories about the cars with their owners. You will also be able to get parts and accessories at these meets. I hope this helps ... and one again, congratulations on your Rambler! And, keep on AMCing! CZmarlin (talk) 21:01, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi CZ. I cannot believe that 1939 is the date of manufacture of this car. Maybe 1919? How can we find out the correct answer? Regards, Eddaido (talk) 10:58, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
- Good question Eddaido! However, this is what was claimed by the owner of the car! You can also see the registration for the vehicle in Class 24A as a 1939 Hudson Speedster, and it earned a "First Junior" at the Central Spring Meet on June 23, 2012. See here: http://www.aaca.org/images/meet_results/2012/2012_central_spring_meet_IA.pdf
- It is definitely not listed as one of the models offered by Hudson in 1939, as can be seen in the full line manual. See here: http://www.oldcarbrochures.org/NA/Hudson/1936_Hudson/1936_Hudson_-_How_What_Why?page=1
- Was it just a leftover chassis, customized, or purpose built for use on the dirt tracks of that era? Perhaps its owner could solve the puzzle? I did not meet them at this show in 2012. The Antique Automobile Club of America library in Hershey, Pennsylvania, may also have additional information about this vehicle or about the rules and vehicle requirements for dirt track racing. See here: http://www.aacalibrary.org
- My responsibility was only for taking the pictures (together with the owner's card) and then uploading some of them into the Commons! Yet I know something seems not right with the year on this speedster! I hope this helps! CZmarlin (talk) 19:41, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

dating
[edit]hello! :)
yes it is very much ok.
ideally though, each photograph should have the correct date info separately, & the folder for the event should be filed under just the date. in case someone uploaded video &/or audio of the event, it would no longer be accurate to have the complete folder categorized as "photographs".
also, the event should be findable under the date category, independently of the photographs, & the photographs should each be findable as "taken on x-day"; such that people can search-request "show me all the photographs taken on x-date". or "show me all the events that happened on x-date"..
i hope i am explaining this adequately.
i'm going to re-add the "taken on x-date" to the one photo, & will bookmark the folder to put dates on the rest of them in the future.
those are some very cool machines, btw.
Lx 121 (talk) 10:18, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- Lx 121, I appreciate your assistance! So, the regular "Date" field is not enough to make the pictures searchable for a "taken on date" inquiry. Instead, an additional "Category:Photographs taken on ___ " needs to be added? I hope I got it now! Thanks! CZmarlin (talk) 13:24, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- yep, you've got it. we set it up that way to avoid ambiguity. "photographs taken on x-date" is pretty hard to misunderstand or misfile (barring incorrect date info for the photograph), & the overall date category can be used to hold anything that happened on that day, by type of media, by event, by location, or etc. right now photographs are most of what we get, but it's not inconceivable that we could get videos of an event too, & if we ever get enough of them to make the effort worthwhile, we'll add categories for "video recorded on x-date" too, or etc. it's slightly redundant, but in a good way; photos get sorted by the date taken, & events/happenings/whatever get placed on the date they occurred, & for users the data is findable both ways. Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.
Dear CZmarlin,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
-- Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 09:42, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Rambler Marlin
[edit]Good Day, I'm curious where you bought the aqua/white Marlin in your pictures. I ask because my father owned one exactly like it, even down to the chrome tissue box holder under the dash. He sold it to fund the restoration of his 1969 Javelin SST which I still have.
Thanks for listening and any info you can provide,

- Hello Charlie! I am not able to provide you with information about the car you are describing. I have taken many photographs of automobiles and do not know their history, nor ownership. There are many resources for Marlin enthusiasts and you should be able to track one down. I would suggest contacting the American Motors Owners Club and the AMC/Rambler Club (or one of their local chapters), as well as the Marlin Automobile Club. It is good to know that you have the Javelin and hope that you will acquire something close to your father's Marlin. That would make a perfect combination! Keep on AMCing! Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
