Description

La salle funéraire des Beys / Princes (détail) Tourbet El Bey dans la Medina de Tunis


Le Tourbet el Bey est le mausolée des Beys husseinites (1705-1957). C'est un vaste monument funéraire qui abrite sous les dômes les tombes des souverains, de leurs familles et de ministres. Les décorations comportent des panneaux de marbre polychrome de style italien. Les sarcophages des hommes comportent des colonnettes coiffées d'un turban.

Ce mausolée princier légué par les husseinites, a été édifié sous le règne de Ali Pacha II (1758-1781).

La Médina de Tunis a été classée au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
