Description
English: Large Cycladic krater. On the body of the vase the return of Apollo to Delos from the land of the Hyperboreans. Standing in a chariot drawn by winged horses are Apollo with his kithara and two female figures, probably the Hyperborean Maidens. Apollo is welcomed by his sister Artemis, who is holding a deer. On the neck, two heroes, probably Achilles and Memnon, engaged in Homeric combat. Work of a Parian workshop. Around 640 B.C. Accession number: 911. National Archaeological Museum of Athens. Athens, Greece. Text: Museum inscription.
