English: An interview with Keith McHenry, co-founder of Food Not Bombs, an international food-sharing organization that provides free vegetarian and vegan meals to anyone who wants food. Food Not Bombs has been subjected to much government harassment, including numerous arrests. At least one such arrest went to a trial by jury that resulted in acquittal by jury nullification.
The story, as I remember it, is that Keith is pretty well-known as both the co-founder of Food Not Bombs and as an anarchist. As it turns out, this was enough that some people, when they saw the original TAC, assumed that it was an actual cookbook written by Keith. When they got their own copy and opened it, however, they would be shocked to find that it was not about feeding vegan meals to large crowds. Keith would then hear from them that they liked what he was doing with Food Not Bombs, but that they thought "his cookbook" was terrible. And, of course, that TAC was the exact opposite to the mission of Food Not Bombs. William Powell, author of the original TAC, has since disavowed it. He would like to see it go out of print, but he does not have control over it. His statement, linked below, is included in the opening pages of Keith's version of TAC, and he apparently gave permission for the title to be repurposed in this manner. Powell's statement disavowing his version is linked below (and is included in Keith's book): https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/dec/19/anarchist-cookbook-author-william-powell-out-of-print |
