Zilveren komfoor voor een waterketel. Dit theeservies is een voorbeeld van burgerlijk zilver dat de Gelderse adel in de 18de eeuw in Den Haag bestelde. Het is een vroeg voorbeeld van een ‘compleet’ zilveren theeservies. Volgens de inscripties in de voorwerpen kreeg Sibilla Lucretia Umbgrove dit serviesje bij haar geboorte op 27 juli 1785. De theepot, melkkan en suikermandje waren toen al twintig jaar oud en vormgegeven volgens de Haagse rococostijl, herkenbaar aan de toepassing van takken en bladeren. De waterketel is later bijgemaakt – mogelijk in 1785 - door de Arnhemse zilversmid Johannes Arntzen. Sibilla was lid van de vooraanstaande Gelderse familie Umbgrove die generaties lang invloedrijk is geweest. De overgrootvader van Sibilla, mr. Gerhard Umbgrove, bekleedde diverse hoge functies in Arnhem en omgeving. Hij was onder meer advocaat en in de periode 1718-1739 meerdere malen burgemeester van Arnhem. |
