Svenska: FIGUR. Hovdam. Satsuma-typ. Stående, bakåtlutad, något vriden åt vänster. I vänstra handen hållande en solfjäder. Iklädd en fotsid rock, ornerad med strödda rosettformiga fält i brunrött, mörkbrunt och guld. Framtill en kjortel i rött med tätt mönster av blommor. Inköpt av Wilhelmina von Hallwyl den 14 maj 1905 hos antikhandlare Eduard Kahlert, Eisenach, för 37:50 DMK.
English: Figure, Japan 19th centuryWhite stoneware figure of a lady decorated in overglaze enamels with gilding. Japan, probably Kyoto, late 19th century. Sumptuously decorated figures of this kind were made for Western customers during the Meiji period (1868-1912), when “Japonisme” raged. Stonewares of this type with cream bodies and elaborately coloured and gilded decoration are called “Satsuma wares” after one kiln where they were made. Satsuma wares generally bear a mark, however, and as similar ceramics were also made at Kyoto, it is probably the figure came from there.
