Description
English: Railways in India unfolded a page in history that started in 1853 and continued to add illustrious chapters in this history to build a glorious nation. The first passenger train ran between Bori Bunder (Bombay) and Thane, covering a small distance of 34 kms and this started the era of new & faster transportation in India. The Railways gradually entrenched in India and become accepted to the society at an unprecedented speed. The frequency and the number of trains were increasing as more and more people started to depend on its services and the wheels of rail reached to commercial, pilgrimage & hills of India and many princely states started operating their own rail network. Each Railway system was identified with unique logos. Some of the old logos used by various princely state railways before independence are here.
