Summary

Description
English: Shigeru Miyamoto once said, "The new Mario is Pikmin." The franchise, which started on the Nintendo GameCube, has now seen the release of its fourth installment, after a decade of Miyamoto insisting that it's right around the corner.

To hear Miyamoto tell it, Pikmin is one of the most important franchises that Nintendo controls - this in spite of the fact that the series has never sold as well as the likes of Mario, Zelda, or Splatoon.

There's a reason why Miyamoto cares so much about Pikmin, and why Nintendo keeps pushing tis particular franchise harder than all others. Pikmin is the company's ace in the hole, and the decision to create the franchise at the start of the GameCube's lifespan had a dramatic impact on what Nintendo has become, to this day, as a developer of innovative games.

When all other gaming hardware manufacturers focused on graphics, Nintendo looked to see what else could be done with the more powerful GameCube technology. Pikmin is indicative of the company's drive to do the unexpected, and find new ways to entertain.

Lots of love, BretonStripes and Kotor
