Het museum werd in 1780 opgericht door Pieter Teyler, onder meer ter aanmoediging van kunsten en wetenschappen. Het museum beheert o.a. een grote boekencollectie, tekeningen van Michelangelo en een verzameling fossielen, mineralen, kristallen en ertsen. SHOTS: schilderij van Pieter Teyler; int. en ext. museum, met diverse museumstukken, o.a. het 31-toons door Nederlandse hoogleraar Adriaan Fokker ontwikkelde orgel; suppoost geeft uitleg over de electriceermachine aan jonge bezoekers.

The museum was founded by Pieter Teyler in 1780, also to stimulate the arts and sciences. The museum keeps a.o. a large collection of books, drawings by Michelangelo and a collection of fossiles, minerals, crystals and ores. SHOTS: painting of Pieter Teyler; int. and ext. museum, with several museum objects, a.o. the organ with 31 tones developed by the Dutch professor Adriaan Fokker; attendant explanes the electrostatic generator to young visitors.
