Description
English:

A black and white detailed image of Halema‘uma‘u explosion cloud from Uēkahuna bluff. In the center of the image there are large smoke clouds rising from Halema‘uma‘u crater. The explosion cloud is filled with thick and dark smoke. Towards the right side of the image there is a gas-thrust uprush and dust rising from the caldera floor and blowing towards the rising explosion cloud at the center of the image. Streamers of ash and gas rise on the left side of the image. Towards the top half of the image there are white clouds that have developed due to steam from the explosion. To the right of the image there is a tall tree and other bushes in front of the large smoke clouds. This image shows the smoke filling the air and expanding up and out onto the ground above the crater. On the bottom left corner of the image there is a raised caption that reads, "Kilauea Volcano Hawaii National Park."

The explosion of Halema‘uma‘u crater at Kilauea.
