English: Guppies (Poecilia reticulata) in Cueva del los Pesces, southern coast of Cuba. Raw, unedited go-pro footage from prelim snorkel exploration at the surface. This cenote (natural sinkhole), which is connected with the nearby coral reef by a deep tunnel (below the level I could snorkel to), has a layer of fresh/brackish water on the top, with salt water below. The freshwater layer seems to be replenished regularly by various springs; its integrity probably varies a great deal, depending on how many tourists/visitors have been swimming and diving at any point in time. Substantial population of guppies, usually hugging the surface. The presence of only rather plain-colored males seems to indicate substantial predation pressure form visual hunters. I suspect grouper, a number of which I saw lurking below. They could easily make quick runs to the surface for snacks. Algae seem to grade form mainly FW types near the surface to more typical marine forms deeper down.
