Thüringen und Bayern
Im Südwesten Thüringens, nahe dem Dreiländereck zu
Hessen und Bayern in der Rhön, stand dieser Stein
zwischen der thüringischen Gemarkung Birx und der
Gemarkung Fladungen im damaligen Königreich Bayern.
Die Gemarkung Birx (jetzt Landkreis Schmalkalden-Meiningen)
gehörte früher zum Großherzogtum
Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, dessen Katastervermessung
im dortigen Gebiet zunächst um 1860 durchgeführt
und ab 1913 ergänzt wurde. An der Stirnseite
des Steins sind noch die Initialen des Königreichs Bayern
“KB” und an der Seitenfläche die Nummerierung zu
erkennen. Das darunter stehende “W” weist auf die
frühere Zugehörigkeit zum Hochstift
Würzburg hin. Im Zuge von
Überprüfungsarbeiten der gemeinsamen
Grenzkommission an der früheren innerdeutschen
Grenze wurde der beschädigte
Stein ersetzt.
