Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Funerary statue of a Siren. Pentelic marble. Found in the ancient cemetery of Kerameikos, Athens. The figure holds a tortoise-shell lyre in her left hand; with the ‘plectrum’ in her right hand, she would have been striking the chords, formerly of metal, lamenting the dead man. The feet and wings have been restored with pluster. 330-320 B.C. Accession number: 775. National Archaeological Museum of Athens.
