Description |
English: So-called Portrait of Marie-Thérèse, Duchess of Angoulême (1778-1851), daughter of Louis XVI of France and Marie Antoinette. "Splendid pastel portrait on paper, mounted on a canvas panel and framed in an antique carved and gilded with gold leaf pine wood frame. The glass covering the painting is also an authentic period piece, being hand-blown. In the center of the painting, a young Maria Theresa Charlotte Bourbon of France, daughter of Louis XV and Marie Antoinette, is depicted with great care and realism. The duchess is portrayed relaxing, with her bodice undone and a book in her hands. The details of her hairstyle, her typical late 18th-century dress, and her face have been rendered with extraordinary care. Her cheeks are also rosy and her gaze is harmonious. In the background of the main figure is a landscape with a small temple. What makes this painting truly unique is its remarkable size, which is extremely rare for a technique such as pastel. The author of this artwork is an anonymous French painter dating from the late 18th-early 19th century. Measurements: with frame HxWxD 135.5 x 95 x 5cm / painting only HxWxD 118 x 79 x 3cm." |
