Description
English: Former Tramway Incline, Honister Slate Mines One of a series of three inclines for hauling the large blocks of slate or "clogs" mined from beneath Fleetwith Pike. The tramway now forms part of the commercial venture "Via Ferrata". The name originates in the Dolomites when the armies of Austria and Italy erected permanent cables and ladders up the steep rock faces to enable rapid deployment of troops.
