Hier wird die Schäferidylle mit dem Traumland Arkadien verbunden. Es ist ein Ausschnitt aus Torquato Tassos Epos "Das befreite Jerusalem" (7.Lied) von 1575, das die Szene zeigt, in der Hermine vom Klang der Instrumente der Hirten, die ihre Herde bewachen, erwacht und ihnen in Clorinde's Rüstung erscheint. Von ihrem einfachen und friedlichen Leben bewegt, beschloss sie, eine Weile bei ihnen zu bleiben. Der Maler präsentiert die Figuren in einer Landschaft, die dem Goldenen Zeitalter nahe kommt.
