Description
English:

A black and white image of a large explosion cloud created from the eruption of Kīlauea that covers the sky. The image shows a landscape view of the explosion coming from the crater of Kīlauea. The crater is at the center of the image showing the ground above the crater. Trees or bushes peak out along the bottom right corner of the image. The smoke is coming from the crater and is filling the air with smoke. The smoke clouds are thick, dark, and compact. As the cloud expands into the air, it becomes less thick and looks more like the clouds in the sky. The caption at the bottom of the image reads “Explosion cloud, Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii National Park 3:00pm. May 23, 1924." On the bottom left corner of the image there is a signature of the photographer that reads, "Copyright Tai Sing Loo 1220."
