Description
English:

Hand-colored photograph of a massive smoke cloud arising from an eruption at Kīlauea. Originally a black and white photograph, the image has been colorized post-capture with orange hues. The camera is only a short distance away, and a small mound with vegetation is present in the foreground at the lower right corner. The thick, billowing plume of smoke is rising from the bottom of the image. The smoke forms multiple expansive clouds that extend almost the entirety of the photograph. Certain areas along the bottom and within the cloud are tinted orange. “Kilauea Volcano Hawaii National Park” is embossed in the bottom left corner and “Copyright by K. Maehara, Hilo, Hawaii” is embossed in the bottom right corner.
