Français : Des observations effectuées au moyen du Très Grand Télescope de l'ESO et du Télescope Canada France Hawaï, indiquent que C/2014 S3 (PANSTARRS) est le tout premier objet doté d'une orbite cométaire à longue période découvert à ce jour, qui présente les caractéristiques d'un astéroïde primitif du Système Solaire interne. Cette découverte devrait livrer d'importantes informations concernant la formation du Système Solaire.
Ce diagramme montre l’histoire probable de cet objet à la fois dans le système solaire interne et externe sur une période de quatre milliards d’années. La majorité de ce temps ayant été passée à la périphérie froide, dans le nuage d’Oort. |
