Cassola, Division Superintendent, working with a barrel of radioactive material at the Naval Air Material Center's Aeronautical Materials Laboratory. Ms. Vadala appears to be holding an analytical instrument used to measure the radioactivity of the substance. At the Laboratory, gamma radiation was commonly used to alter the physical properties of textile fibers and polymers.
