| Description |
The subterranean 262 meters (860 ft) moving walkway at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois bathed in neon light from the installation, Sky's the Limit (1987), by Michael Hayden. The walkway is part of the United Airlines terminal that was designed by Helmut Jahn; the terminal was listed as one of the 150 favorite structures in the United States by the American Institute of Architects. This underground walkway connects Terminals B and C at O'Hare Airport. The overhead neon lights are in the colors of the rainbow and sequentially light up in a synchronized pattern. At the far end is the escalator that is very brightly lit so the highlights are blown. The ceiling is also a reflective surface. Originally this was intended to be part of a planned joint venture between United Air and Disney that was never completed. Commonly referred to as 'disco tunnel' by travelers. |
