Object history |
English: Hatzfeld gained city rights in 1340 by King Ludwig the Bavarian, lost them in 1885 and regained them in 1950. The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city from the 14th century. The escutcheon displays the arms of the Lords (later Counts and Princes) of Hatzfeld, local rulers since 1139, who erected a castle in 1282 on the other bank of Eder River. The 2nd seal from the 15th century just displayed an embattled wall, charged with a wall anchor and crowned by two towers. |
