Contains original lithographic prints of Chicago (Ill.) in the early ninteenth century that were based on original drawings by Louis Kurz. Scenes include prominent buildings, streets, and views of Chicago. Buildings include public buildings, hotels, railroad stations, churches, theaters, waterworks, and gas works. Streets include Lake Street, LaSalle Street, Michigan Avenue, Park Row, South Water Street, State Street, Wabash Avenue, Washington Street, and Wells Street. Also includes views of the Chicago River and the lakefront, showing Lake Michigan. Nearly all scenes include a few pedestrians. This copy was owned by Evanston, IL resident Charles Judson Gilbert (1829-1900) |
