Description

The inscription on the tomb of Sir John Young and Dame Joane, Bristol Cathedral, Bristol, England. The tomb was placed in the cathedral in 1606. Sir John entertained Queen Elizabeth when she visited Bristol in 1574 and was knighted by her. Inscribed:

„HERE LYETH THE BODIES OF SIR IOHN YOUNG
KNIGTH AND DAME IOANE HIS WYFE: BY HIM SHE
HAD YSSUE, SIR ROBERTE, IANE AND MARGARET;
SHE WAS FYRSTE MARRYED TO SIR GILES
STRAINGEWAYES KNIGTH, BY WHOME SHE
HAD YSSUE IOHN, EDWARD, GEORGE, NICHO(las),
ANN; AND ELIZABETH, SHE WAS ...
DAUGHTER TO IOHN WADHAM, ESQUIRE
AND SHEE DEPARTET THIS MORTALL
LYFE, THE. 14TH OF JUNE : 1603
AGED: 70. YEERES“
