Description
English:

Reverse side of a photograph, typewriting reads, "As the stream of lava crossed the road, a large round boulder, red hot, rolled from the top of the pile and knocked the Chinese store off its foundation and set fire to it, and while it was burning it was crushed by the front of the lava stream striking it. The mass of lava 50 feet high, and 1500 feet wide moved only about 2 to 5 feet per minute, but crept through stone walls as they they [sic] were tissue paper. Not much noise to it, but sounded like someone rolling around a great big barrel of broken bottles. The black mass was all red hot, with cascades of incandescent cinders pouring through the gaps. Thomas Boles.,."
