English: Part One | Alderman O'Connor recently spoke at the City Club of Chicago. City Club has been the stage for momentous announcements, historic debates and enlightened analyses of the important affairs of the region. The original City Club members -- the most prominent leaders and opinion-makers in the areas of business, government, media, education and civic affairs have shaped our region's history and played key roles in its seminal events, the landmark elections and the dramatic changes in public policy.
During his speech, O'Connor said having a new mayor is "an opportunity to reinvent the way we do business and reinvent the way the city does business." Absent that kind of change, the city will be in trouble, he said. "We will become a bankrupt society, as opposed to a government that can continue to help the neediest and perform the most essential services," he said. |
