Description
English: Uropod formation in Entamoeba histolytica. Trophozoites were seeded on glass bottom culture dishes (MatTeck) and incubated at 37°C in the presence of 5 µg/ml of fluorescent Con A (Alexa fluor 488, Molecular Probes). Live parasites undergoing capping were imaged using a confocal microscope (40× objective) with a Nipkow disk device (Perkin Elmer). Images (10 per second) in a focal plane show fluorescence changes at the amoebic membrane reflecting the surface receptor capping and uropod formation phenomena.
