Description
English: Broad gauge, diesel locomotive, class WDM2 Co-Co 17827 (built DLW (Diesel Locomotive Works, Varansi), 1978-9) departs from Jalandhar, India, with a local passenger train. This locomotive is one of the slightly sinister looking Americanised, cut-down, full-width, short hood versions of the WDM2, nicknamed “Jumbos”, with strange “spiders web” protective grills over the front windows. These were designed to give improved visibility for the drivers but any improvements were minimal and there were disadvantages of this arrangement so this version was only produced for a short period. Compare with the standard, high, short hood version of the WDM2.
