The field book documents Harrison G. Dyar's field work and rearing of sawflies, 1895 - 1897. Entries are headed with assigned alpha-numeric identifiers. Entries include a combination of information such as type, host plant, location, and date. Sometimes includes additional description of larvae placement on host plant. Descriptions then cover details about anatomy, color, texture, measurements. These details are sometimes listed by date or stage of development (e.g. molting). Sometimes measurements are given in a series ("calc" and "found") and sketches of insect anatomy or plants. Locations are sometimes specified with street intersections or park names. Locations include sites in New Hampshire (Jefferson Highlands), New York (Long Island, New York City), and New Jersey
