1979 AMC Spirit AMX the 24-hour Nurburgring endurance wining #2 race car at 2024 AMO show

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 1979 AMC Spirit AMX. This is one of two American Motors Corporation (AMC) built cars that were prepared by Team Highball and sponsored by the B.F. Goodrich tire company in the annual FIA Group One 24-hour race (for mildly modified production cars) held at Germany's legendary Nürburgring track in 1979. It was the first American team to enter and finish first and second in their class at the grueling Nürburgring endurance race. The AMXs were also the only race cars running street tires. They were mounted the factory-standard 14-inch "Turbocast II" aluminum road wheels. Driven by Lyn St James, Gary Witzenburg, and Jim Downing. These pictures were taken during the American Motors Owners Association (AMO) annual convention in June 2024, organized by the Potomac Ramblers Club. Most events were held at the Keystone Truck and Tractor Museum in Petersburg, Virginia.
