Notes XVI th last quarter (not later than 1587), Paris, with the arms of Jacques-Auguste de Thou (1553-1617) as bachelor. À la fanfare binding (see Burlington Fine Arts Club, Exhibition of bookbindings, p. 49, pl. LX on Herodotus Historia, Gr., Paris, 1570, owned by Eton College; W. Y. Fletcher, Bookbinding in England and in France, pl III on Valerii maximi dictorum factorumque memorabilium libri IX, Anvertpiae, 1574; H. B. Wheatley, Les reliures remarquables du Musée Britannnique, p. 86-87, pl. XXXIX, on Valerii Maximi dictorum factorumque memorabilium libri IX, Antverpiae, ex officina Christophori Plantini, 1574). Owned one of the most famous libraries of his time whose catalogue printed in 1679. Three coat-of- arms: when he was bachelor, with his first wife Marie de Barbançon married in 1587 and in 1601 with Gasparde de La Chastre. Different his bindings decorations: fillet borders, alla greca, à l'ancienne, aldine type, à la fanfare", about 20 according to G. D. Hobson (Les reliures à la fanfare, p. 76) and au semé.
