雙塔寺 （蘇州）

雙塔寺は蘇州城內舊宮院前の定慧寺境內にある。寺は唐の感通二年（一〇六五年前）の創建であるが、塔は、宋の太祖の雍熙三年（九三九年前）の建立で、この年は宋と契丹とが干戈を交へた年で塔が一對聳え立つてゐるので雙塔と云ふやうになつた。塔は恰も雙管の筆を建てたるが如く、一方は高く大筆を擬し、一方は低く小筆を擬したものである。古來、姑蘇の地は文學技藝の風を尚び多くの碩學大儒を排出したのも故なきことではない。依つて、蘇州人この地を文藝淵叢の地として自慢してゐる風がある。以上の如くであるから塔が筆型をしてゐるのも文藝を表徵したものと云ふ。またこれを以て碩學名僧を憑弔の意を表する為めに記念として的婆沙塔として蘇州人が建立したものだと傳へてゐる。｜（印畫の複製を禁ず）
