Summary
English: We are used to call this creature a worm, but, in fact, it is a larva of a cherry fly. A small black fly, about 3-5 mm long, lays one egg in the flesh of Sweet Cherry or Cherry. White legless larvae, 3-6 mm long, hatch from the eggs. Growing larvae feed on the fruit flesh around cherry stones, contaminating it with their excrements. After feeding, larvae come out of fruit and bury themselves into the ground up to a depth of 5 cm. They pupate and stay there for winter. English: A Sweet Cherry worm under a microscope. |
