Summary
English: Feeding ciliate Paramecium caudatum
On the body of the ciliate there is a deepening - the cellular mouth, which passes into the cell's pharynx. Near the mouth are specialized cilia "glued" into complex structures. They tighten the main food of ciliate - bacteria - into the pharynx along with the flow of water. At the bottom of the pharynx, food enters the phagosome (digestive vacuole). In the phagosome, food is digested, and also digested foods enter the cytoplasm and are used for the life of the ciliate. The undigested food residues remaining inside the digestive vacuole are pushed outward in the back of the body through a special area of the cell surface.
