Газогидраты – относительно новый и потенциально обширный источник природного газа. Эти сложные структуры, образованные молекулами метана и воды, существующие при низких температурах и высоком давлении, были открыты на Байкале ещё в прошлом веке. Газогидраты широко распространены во всех морях и океанах, в перспективе могут стать новым источником энергии для человечества. Удивительно, но Байкал оказался единственным пресноводным водоёмом, где сибирские ученые обнаружили это явление. С тех пор озеро стало полигоном для исследователей газогидратов всего мира. Автор этой серии фотографий – Короткоручко Владимир Афанасьевич, ведущий специалист группы по связям с общественностью Иркутского научного центра Сибирского отделения РАН.
