Egúngún is a visible masquerade or masked and one of the Yoruba gods and deities which is worshipped to remember the deceased ancestors either to persuade or to request favours from them. Also, it is a manifestation of the spirits of departed ancestors who periodically revisit the human community for remembrance, celebration, and blessings. This audiovisual was recorded in Iseyin, a town in Oyo State of Nigeria on the 13th of November 2023. The video features Abegunde Ikusaanu Ayinla, who is an Egungun worshiper in Iseyin, Oyo State. The video was directed and produced for the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group by Tunde Oladimeji, a notable documentary film maker in Nigeria. |
