Qajar Iran, AH 1231/1815-16 AD Poetry, Persian manuscript on paper, 67ff. with 12ll. of black shekasteh in two columns, illuminated heading of opening folio with illuminated margins for opening and second folios, final folio with colophon stating it was written by Mehdi al-Husayni al-Farahani, the year 1231,black lacquer binding with scrolling flowers and floral panels, red lacquer doublures painted with gold floral motifs -- Folio 17.3 x 9.7cm. See Illustration. This is probably the earliest recorded work by the scribe Muhammad Mehdi Farahani, copied during the life of the poet. Muhammad Mehdi Farahani, pen-named 'Eshrat was a calligrapher of Fath'ali Shah's court and was titled malik al-Kuttab, King of Scribes, by the king. Abd al-Vahhab Isfahani was also a well-known official, scholar, calligrapher and poet of Fath'ali Shah's court. Appointed as munshi al-mamalik and titled Mu'tamid al-Dawla in AH 1224/1809-10 AD.
