Thanks, but...
[edit]Querido WML 2014 Spain national jury,
I am very happy that one of my photos of Alhambra has made it into the top 100 of WLM 2014 in Spain. Also thanks for the hard work you have done reviewing all the candidates.
That said, I am left behind very confused regarding your review criteria. The image of mine you have selected suffered from shutter snap, which is apparent, when you look at it in full resolution - nothing is clear. I had nominated another panorama of Alhambra taken just 12 minutes later, showing a wider field of view including the Generalife and with a flawless pixel quality. That one is also a featured picture on both Commons, the English and Farsi Wikipedias. I am really surprised that if one picture were to be selected, why not that one?
I don't really expect that you reply this, because it could open the gates to countless discussions from other nominators. I also do not want to sound ungratefull, I am just very confused what makes you choose the one with the bad image quality and incomplete content over the FP with the entire Alhambra in it. I just feel really embarassed by the technical quality of the picture you have selected, and I would rather like to retract it from the competition, unless it can be replaced by the FP. I actually meant to retract it from WML 2014 after achieving the much better FP, but forgot about it... -- Slaunger (talk) 18:33, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, Slaunger, we had to review thousands of images. In cases like yours, where we had to compare similar pictures, we don't always remember which one was the sharpest, and in the very first selection, we only look at a small size (800, 1024...) We usually check the full resolution version later. Of course, we make mistakes, but don't feel embarrassed, because yours it's not the worst image here, absolutely not. --Kadellar (talk) 23:05, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. Well, I could just have withdrawn it from the competition myself if I had remembered. I do understand that such full-res details may get lost when having to choose between thousand of images. I just got a little frustrated because I considered the tripple FP as one of the top-three photos I had ever taken and which I had very carefully edited for an optimal experience. I had really hoped it would be included, and had the experience when I saw the version with the technical flaws and the "incomplete" composition being selected instead. Life goes on, its just a picture, no bad feelings . -- Slaunger (talk) 20:37, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
