LOGO REMOVED FROM COMPETITION'

  • Reason: Must rules #3, Visual guidelines #3 => same comment as previous logo: the hollowed text makes for a difficult contrast and will not be readable on some colored backgrounds + contrast overall will make logo hard to read on several backgrounds. Grayscale will make the contrast between red and gray fade and make logo difficult to understand. Thanks a bunch for participating! notafish }<';> 00:17, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am not very good with Inkscape, therefore I put this contribution here "as it is " with the idea that someone more gifted than I might wish to enhance it. I'm afraid though that this logo doesn't work well at smaller scales…
The logo can easily be extended or shortened for other languages, but the general idea is to keep it square. — Olivier1961 (talk) 16:27, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Several drafts

[edit]

Comments

[edit]
  • Just a few quick drafts exploring several possible ideas. If any of these inspires someone to do something cool, go ahead! Otherwise, if there is support, I can work on developing one of these into a proper svg submission. Some of the ideas I played with:
    • Attempts at not using words, so the logo is language-neutral (puzzle piece(s), monument photo, people/hands collaborating, heart)
    • When using words, contrast hand-written "wiki" to emphasize the "anyone can help", vs. the traditional, serif font for "monuments"
    • A lousy attempt at writing "monuments" using actual monuments (greek columns, the stonehenge, the pyramids...). Maye someone can do it better (or maybe it's just a sucky idea)
Note: I can produce individual files for each draft, if you think that works better in this page. --Waldir talk 14:22, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I like the one with the slightly diagonal photo with a missing puzzle piece :) That has no problems with the love-annotation (which gives problems in i.e. Polish) and it gives a constructive image. Effeietsanders (talk) 15:07, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I added numbers for easy reference and also tweaked the levels to make things more visible. So, I guess you were talking about #6? --Waldir talk 22:46, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was talking about 3/4 (with or without the hands, and for 3 only the left part). Effeietsanders (talk) 12:44, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I like 1, 5 (or 9) 8 and 10. I like the idea of going without text at all. #1 would be really cool, but probably does not scale with other languages. Go go go! notafish }<';> 15:47, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Inspiring draft... :) #10, but i think about Commons Logo too. + . Hmm :) Przykuta[edit] 17:31, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, that is a great idea... I don't see exactly how it could be implemented, but I'd like to see someone try :) --Waldir talk 02:14, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Next time :) Przykuta[edit] 21:30, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Implementation

[edit]

Ok, I created the versions that people requested (plus the one I personally liked most, #2). Here they are:

Version 1 (with heart reused from Sertion's "compact" proposal) Version 2 (without the hands featured in the draft)

Some notes:

  • In Version 1, following what I said above, the "wiki" part was made with a more cursive font than Sertion's and also in blue, to resemble writing with a pen, and also to add some color :)
  • #10 (on the drafts) was a lame attempt at combining a puzzle piece and a monument (and maybe a picture). I think I failed disastrously, but Lusitana did a brilliant job at that with her proposals #Piece of puzzle monument and #Piece of puzzle monument 2 :)

LOGO REMOVED FROM COMPETITION'

  • Reason: Must rules #3 - Visual guidelines #4=> Given its shape, and how small the items are, the logo will not scale from small to big. I am aware that there are other logos with the same "icons", and I'm leaving those in because their more compact shape or their color style will allow for much better scaling. As a note to the author: Keep those icons coming, we'll need them for our printed material ;). Merci de ta participation ! notafish }<';> 20:29, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Mouais. I'm not really convinced by your explanation. On a 2 square centimetres print, you always see the shape of the monuments. But you are the judge ! :-) Trizek here or on fr:wp 22:38, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Would it make sense to start sorting the submissions a bit at some point, to give people a clear overview where the heat is? Effeietsanders (talk) 10:33, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking about this as well. I suggest moving all the submissions with no or very few supporters to the bottom of the page. The old logo should remain the first option, followed by those candidates with many votes and many supporters. Maybe this should be done soon, so users who like to vote get a quick overview and aren't scared by the large number of options (since they now see the best submissions first). At the same time, some really good logos from the bottom of the page will get more attention than they already do.--Cirdan (talk) 14:46, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
At the same time you could add paragrapths of Support and Oppose, so you can count the pro's and conn's easier. HenkvD (talk) 18:25, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just re-ordered the submissions. First, I moved all the ones with no supporters to the bottom, then started moving up all the ones with more votes in favor than opposing votes. I thought about moving down all the ones with only one vote in favor as well, but wasn't sure if that was too much of an influence on the ongoing voting process. I believe that the reorganization will help find the very best logo, but if there are serious concerns, feel free to undo my edits.--Cirdan (talk) 09:41, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough and well done, Cirdan.--Ziko (talk) 08:36, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
