Question How was the experience of selecting for the jury team, did the photo descriptions matter in the selection process?

• Ans In addition to the criteria on the meta page and the montage tool, technical quality, creativity, originality, theme, and usefulness were considered

Question What next is in for the winners are they further enhanced to further opportunities?

• Ans They can join the user group as volunteers, with activities including but not limited to;
  • Making use of the images to create (related) articles on Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, edit-a-thons, e.t.c
  • Tracking where images have been re-used or where they can be re-used e.g Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos
  • Becoming active editors, contributors, and creating partnerships with photographers for quality images.
  • Collaboration with other Wikimedians within the movement, including the WLA 2020 telegram chat, the community in Rwanda, commitments at the East African Strategy summit in kampala.
  • Taking part in other upcoming and annual Usergroup projects like Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Monuments, GLAM, Wiki Women, Luganda editathons - Education, e.t.c

Doubts...

Hello,

Sorry, but I have some doubts about this picture (nominated among the Top Five according to Facebook) : File:Main Taxi Park - Central Uganda.jpg, apparently made by Nathan Siegel for The Guardian (2017). See [1].

Thanks for pointing this out Ji-Elle, the Usergroup's note on efforts to reach out to the two initial winners did not yield any results, so they have been removed from winning positions accordingly. It would be great if the upload wizard or montage tool can detect external usage/meta data of such images before they are uploaded to commons. We are following up on any other violations of competition rules. --Douglaseru (talk) 15:39, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
