Synhalonia on Phlomis - Candidate set

This is a featured set of five images. Right now each image is an independent candidate on its own in the contest. On total, this means the set has a five times greater chance to win than any other image. However my concern is quite the opposite. I feel that seeing five pictures of the same subject scattered among the other candidates can look repetitive and boring, leading voters to reject the whole set. My preference (and suggestion) is to choose the best photo of the five (by whatever procedure) and nominate it alone. Opinions? Gidip (talk) 21:53, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

That might be good for this set, but what we do with sets like NGC 300 by ESO, Chloroplast and Mitochondrion or The Early Poems of Alfred, Lord Tennyson? Béria Lima msg 23:38, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
This might be relevant to other sets too, depending on how similar the individual images are. Do all sets necessarily have to be treated the same way?
If you leave all the photos, I think it would be better to present them in succession and not randomly scattered among other candidates. Anyway I will not pursue this issue further, I have made my point. Gidip (talk) 21:48, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
Let me tell you i didnt want to dismis your idea, and if you want to present a "best of" of similar sets, we can try to organize something. Béria Lima msg 17:16, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
I do! Thank you, I really appreciate it. Gidip (talk) 22:25, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Order of candidates

I strongly suggest that when viewing the images by whatever grouping available, the order of the images be randomized so that each time the page is opened, a different order is presented. This is not the case currently. (see en:Serial position effect) Gidip (talk) 21:53, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

That already happens with the POTY script. the script is not active now, but will be during the rounds. Béria Lima msg 23:25, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Meeting assumptions

This is what we decided/confirmed in the meeting:

  • ✓ DoneGalleries are done - Beria will move December FPs to gallery page
  • ✓ DoneCall for translation will be posted on Meta/Commons notice areas
  • ✓ Done Is the script ready?
  • ✓ Done Mono will setup the Toolserver eligibility tool at [1]
There is a small mistake. The 75 edits are counted as before 1 Jan 2012, not 2013 as should be :D Béria Lima msg 03:01, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. There are two parts to the script - the output and the logic. I'll double-check both, I suppose the way we do years messed me up. Mono 03:13, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
✓ Done Mono 19:59, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
  • ✓ Done Rules are done
  • ✓ DoneR1 banners will run the first three days (after testing) and the last three days link. Béria Lima msg 22:17, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
  • ✓ DoneR2 banners will run all 7 days (maybe use JS for eligible users only?) link. Béria Lima msg 22:17, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Messages on mailing lists, social sites, Wikimedia blog, Signpost, etc. will go out before the contest begins
  • We will use a couple of bots with an opt-out list to post on last year's voter talk pages on day 1 of the contest
  • Abusefilters and title blacklist need to be activated

French translation

Hi there

I would like to help in translation in french, but I don't understand what is needed and how to do...--Jebulon (talk) 18:38, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Just go to Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2012/Translations, find the "Fench" row in the tables, and translate it with the "/en" as base. :D Béria Lima msg 01:09, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Adding translation

I made this[2], but then what? FunkMonk (talk) 11:06, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

You can translate Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2012/Translations/Village_Pump/da with Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2012/Translations/Village_Pump/en as base. Béria Lima msg 11:59, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Changes to header template

I have modified the header template a bit so that it looks nicer. These changes are necessary because the social networks listed are not used frequently and are distracting. Also, the gradients and some of the shadows and the colors are causing problems in old browsers. They are also distracting. The height was also slightly decreased so that it takes up less space - we want the emphasis to be on the pictures, not bright colors and large headers. Mono 01:48, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Butterflies

Hi,
I think there are a mistake : the butterflies aren't painted but photographed. Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2012/Galleries/Paintings --Citron (talk) 15:54, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Can you get me a list of the images that shouldn't be there, please? Béria Lima msg 17:19, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Those and this one ( File:Bataille Waterloo 1815 reconstitution 2011 3.jpg ) are photographs. --McZusatz (talk) 18:03, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
And this one File:No.2 'Dolgoch'.jpg --Citron (talk) 11:49, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
Which category they should go to? Lepidoptera? Béria Lima msg 15:34, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
Of course !--Citron (talk) 16:30, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
