The commons is now running on MediaWiki 1.5, for some of the new goodies see the release notes.

I took the liberty of changing the sidebar (which can now be edited though the MediaWiki namespace), it probably needs some more tweaking. —Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 2005-06-26 08:19:23 (UTC)

You screwed up my user css!  ;-) I fixed it, though. I have it configured so that the sidebar is fixed, but the position of each is determined by "em"s because I don't know how else to do it, so changing the labels screwed it all up. - Omegatron June 26, 2005 19:33 (UTC)
No EXIF? / tsca 26 June 2005 09:39 (UTC)
Not yet, the the version of php used on the Wikimedia servers hasn't been compiled with Exif support. —Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 2005-06-26 10:58:20 (UTC)
Please vote for bugzilla:2741 if you want Exif support. —Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 7 July 2005 15:35 (UTC)

Very cool. Thank you, Brion, Ævar, Tim, and all the other devs.

Any ideas why edit counting no longer works, and whether it'll be fixed? dbenbenn | talk 26 June 2005 14:24 (UTC)
Because the schema has been changed so that you can no longer count edits like in 1.4, and that script only supports the 1.4 schema. —Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 2005-06-26 14:42:10 (UTC)
[edit]

If I add an automatic piped link, that is one with nothing after the pipe where Wikimedia should fill in the pipe while removing namespaces, interwikis, and parentheses, it doesn't work. It worked under MediaWiki 1.4. Like this: [[Wikimedia Commons|]] Andrew pmk 26 June 2005 14:58 (UTC)

They don't work when there's nothing to remove, like in the above example. [[Commons:Foo|]] is still displayed as Foo. Ausir June 26, 2005 15:21 (UTC)
I've tried to employ this, but it doesn't work in articles. Maybe it works only in the Commons: namespace? --Ikar.us June 30, 2005 07:54 (UTC)

Watchlists

[edit]

Any idea why my watchlist says "Below are the last 26 changes in last 3 days." but shows changes for the 23rd, 24th, 25th, and 26th? -- Joolz 26 June 2005 15:11 (UTC)

does last 3 days mean last 72 hours (3*24=72)? if this was the case then most of the time those changes would be spread over 4 dates (2 complete days and 2 partial days). Plugwash June 26, 2005 19:00 (UTC)
Yeah, 3 days means 3 actual days.

Can´t work with Firefox

[edit]

Usually I edit the Commons with Firefox. But now I had to change to Opera because Firefox don't work here anymore. Everytime I try to save a page, the software only does a preview! --OsvaldoGago 26 June 2005 20:50 (UTC)

This is caused by some session issue - if it works for one browser, it should with others, too. But maybe your cookie in FF went bad somehow - try to log out, clear cookies, and log in again. -- Duesentrieb 26 June 2005 21:26 (UTC)
It works now. Thanks a lot. I prefer Firefox to Opera. --OsvaldoGago 26 June 2005 21:41 (UTC)

Diffs

[edit]

The newest edit to a page somehow shows twice when viewing diffs. Not a real error but ... peculiar. --Mayhem 26 June 2005 21:52 (UTC)

Undelete

[edit]

I can't undelete Image:Dates.jpeg. I always get

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /usr/local/apache/common-local/php-1.5/includes/Image.php on line 73

Has anyone gotten this message? Has anyone successfully undeleted something? dbenbenn | talk 28 June 2005 21:00 (UTC)

Never mind. This is now bug 2597 at Bugzilla. dbenbenn | talk 29 June 2005 01:36 (UTC)
[edit]

We can traslate the sidebar display in this way (change zh to your lang code):

bugs?

[edit]

--vipuser (talk) <admin> 29 June 2005 04:06 (UTC)

That's not a bug, it's like that by design. —Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 2005-06-29 13:14:26 (UTC)

Strange search results

[edit]

When searching fot the keyword wastewater, it finds the deleted Wastewater treatmwnt, but not the actual Wastewater treatment. It seems not to be just an outdated search index, because the heading says that it will display 3 results, but then it does display only 2. --Ikar.us June 30, 2005 07:14 (UTC)
