Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in Australia

Australia is participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2018, having previously participated in 2017. Photographs of registered heritage places are eligible for consideration in the judging. The competition will be open for entries from 00:00(AEST) 1 September 2018 until 23:59(AWST) 30 September 2018.

Upload your image via the WLM upload tool, please include a description of the place and on which register it has been listed.

Rules

The basic set of rules for the contest are:

1. All photos participating in the competition should be self-taken and self-uploaded;
2. All Photographs should be of places listed on a Heritage register
3. Upload during September only (00:01 AEST 1 September until 23:59 AWST 30th September), to Wikimedia Commons;
4. The default licence is Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 (CC-BY-SA 4.0);
5. All eligible pictures should have an identifier, given by the participants during upload;
6. Participants should have their e-mail enabled on Wikimedia Commons to be eligible for prizes;

Judging

Judging took place in October 2018. Key criteria considered in judging

• technical merit, light, composition, focus, lens distortion, detail
• place is registered on a Heritage Register
• encyclopedic value

Other things considered include placement within the subject's local environment, unique perspective especially for the more commonly photographed places.

Ten entries chosen as finalists were submitted for International judging. Finalists who provided address details received $100 gift card and certificate of recognition.

Note: Wikimedia Australia along with the whole Australian community acknowledges Indigenous heritage sites and their importance as such we will select the 10 best images regardless. To comply with WLM International judging requirements WMAU may substitute some images to enable 10 images of man made structures to be entered into the international judging.

Page banners will be judged only on the international level. The prize will be given for the best overall contribution, as detailed here.

1 - despite meeting all criteria and being judged Australias best, these Indigenous heritage sites were ruled ineligible during the International judging section for not being "man made"
