Measures of Success
[edit](some initial thoughts)
Project goal
Help national teams organize Wiki Loves Monuments in their respective countries more effectively and efficiently and organize the international layer of Wiki Loves Monuments. More specifically:
- Provide local organizers with the tools and support that they need to organize the national Wiki Loves Monuments competitions in their countries, including the technical infrastructure (templates, upload campaigns, etc.) for uploading images. --> Largely, things went well (Monica, Romaine), the minimum required infrastructure was there, but quite suboptimal, especially on the technical side (Lodewijk).
- Provide an international layer for Wiki Loves Monuments 2013, including organizing the international photo competition and an international finale. --> This worked out well. A qualified jury was put together, deadlines were met.
- Provide and/or help provide a central infrastructure that can support and coordinate the national competitions and enable communication between chapters. --> There were discussions on the mailing list. Not always in a perfect way, but there was exchange of experience.
- Create and maintain helpful documentation for multiple target groups, including national organizers and participants. --> Documentation was present, but suboptimal and often with challenges where to find it, or outdated.
Measures of success
There are three categories of measures relevant for this project:
- first, there are the general measures that define whether Wiki Loves Monuments as a whole was successful.
- second, there are measures that define whether the international project team was successful as such in their job.
- third, there is a list of success factors which might be discussed in the evaluation, but cannot necessarily be put a number on.
Measures of success for Wiki Loves Monuments
(conservative estimates)
- More than 385,000 media files uploaded submitted to the contest --> very close call. Slightly less.
- | Participating | 370540 | 371,589 total.
- | Removed | 3950 |
- | Deleted | 3212
- More than 15,000 uploaders - at least 3,000 of the used accounts are new --> Number of uploaders was less than 15k. New accounts to be determined.
- 12360 distinct authors (total). 9758 registered on or after 2013-08-31 00:00:00 UTC
- 2012: 15461 distinct authors and 12777 users registered on or after 2012-08-31 00:00:00 UTC
- 35 countries participated in the contest in 2012 --> we beat that by a lot: 52.
- 9 months after the contest ended, at least 100 new users were an active contributor (5 edits per month in any of the Wikimedia projects) in at least one month in November-April (please note: this metric will not be available in time for the final report)--> we can't say yet.
Measures of success for the international team
- A grant request is accepted successfully, and a report is produced according to the request --> tbd.
- A survey is executed among participants (before the end of 2013): --> data to be processed
- Indicating that they are likely to edit Wikimedia projects more often (> 25% of respondents)
- | NULL | 67 |
- | 1 | 72 | (No, not at all)
- | 2 | 134 | (Rather no)
- | 3 | 498 | (Maybe)
- | 4 | 468 | (Rather yes)
- | 5 | 389 | (Yes, absolutely)
- (preliminary data)
- Indicating that they would like to participate again next year (> 50% of respondents)
- | NULL | 36 | (Not answered)
- | 1 | 12 | (No, not at all)
- | 2 | 22 | (Rather no)
- | 3 | 179 | (Maybe)
- | 4 | 498 | (Rather yes)
- | 5 | 881 | (Yes, absolutely)
- (preliminary data)
- A survey is executed among organizers (before the end of 2013): --> Cristian is working on this (!!!)
- Indicating that they are satisfied with the international team
- Indicating that they are satisfied with the tools and technical framework provided
- Indicating that they are satisfied with the documentation available
- Indicating that they are satisfied with the volunteer involvement on an international level
- The international finale is successfully completed --> Done
- The prizes are handed out before March 2014, with a possible exception for travel related prizes --> tbd.
- At least 90% of the participating countries submitted nominees to the finale --> Done, 100%
- The winners of the international finale are successfully processed. --> in progress.
- Documentation is available for the all important parts of organizing a Wiki Loves Monuments. --> ??
- Indicating that they are likely to edit Wikimedia projects more often (> 25% of respondents)
- Intangible/non-measurable success factors[edit]
- Volunteers are pitching in to organise and lead the contest in their country.
- Increased availability of monument lists and/or information on Wikipedia --> we will see
- Anecdotal evidence from the organizers survey at/after the end of the contest on how the evaluate different aspects of the contest, including the work of the international team. (This could be through the surveys, or through other channels)
Setting a timzeline for the evaluation
[edit]deadlines, not necessarily meetings
We need to be finished by 31 Jan, hand in the report.
Lets take a week for final review.
Draft ready by 24 Jan.
content more or less raw ready by 17 Jan. --> meeting point?
inventory of what we want to tell by 31 Dec. & divide the tasks, set up Google doc/wiki page --> meeting point?
Platonides to wrap up participant survey & submit results to Beat: Tentative date for sending survey results: 27th December.
If Beat has input interesting for the evaluation, please provide before 17 of Jan so we can make optimal use of it in the evaluation.
