This page describes how files uploaded as part of Wiki Loves Monuments use structured data. Robots are currently extracting as much data as possible from the wikitext and adding it as structured data. For more information on creating monument lists from Wikidata entries, see this page.
This table gives an overview of the relevant structured data being added.
What to store | How is it done now? | Structured data | How to add the structured data |
---|---|---|---|
Description | Description field in {{Information}} | Caption | Add a caption to the file in one or more languages |
What you see in the photo | A related category gets added like Category:Nieuwe Kerk, Haarlem | depicts (P180) | Add the Q id for what you see in the photo, for example Nieuwe Kerk (Q2275186) |
Name where the photo was taken | A related category gets added like Category:Haarlem | location of creation (P1071) | Add the Wikidata item for the most specific location. It an be a general location like Haarlem (Q9920) or specific Kerkstraat (Q17286558). Just use the most specific location you're sure about and for which an item exists. location of the point of view (P7108) is more specific, but doesn't replace location of creation (P1071) |
Specific point of view where the photo was taken | A related category gets added like Category:Robben Island seen from Table Mountain | location of the point of view (P7108) | Only add the Wikidata item if you know the photo was taken from a specific location with a Wikidata item like for example Table Mountain (Q213360). For more general, use location of creation (P1071). |
Coordinates of the photographer | {{Location}} | coordinates of the point of view (P1259) (with heading (P7787)) | The coordinates of the photographer just like in the template. heading (P7787) can be added with the heading in degree (Q28390).
These are the preferred coordinates. |
Coordinates of the photographed object | {{Object location}} | coordinate location (P625) | The coordinates of the photographed objects are usually the coordinates of one of the Wikidata items added in depicts (P180) so these are usually derived coordinates. We prefer coordinates of the point of view (P1259), but these are useful too. |
Source of photo | Source field in {{Information}} filled with {{Own}} and {{Self}} down at the license section | source of file (P7482) | Usually original creation by uploader (Q66458942) for Wiki Loves Monuments.
Some rare cases with file available on the internet (Q74228490) (for when we used Flickr and other platforms). In that case the statement is qualified with operator (P137) and described at URL (P973)) |
Copyright status of the photo | Implied by the license | copyright status (P6216) | All files are copyrighted (Q50423863) by the contributor (with maybe a few exceptions) and have a free license. |
License of the photo | {{Self}} with one or more license templates like {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} | copyright license (P275) | The item for the relevant license. For example Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (Q18199165) |
Photographer of the photo | Author field in {{Information}} | creator (P170) with several qualifiers | Most photographers won't have a Wikidata item and we're not going to create items for everyone who ever contributed to Wikimedia Commons. We set creator (P170) to some value and qualify it with:
|
Date when the photo was taken | Date field in {{Information}} | inception (P571) | The date on which the photo was taken. It can't be more specific than a day, but it can be less specific (like month or year). User interface isn't ready yet so you can only see it, not change it. |
Photo competition the photo is part of | Use a template like {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2020}} | participant in (P1344) | Add the item for the relevant photo competition. For example Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 (Q66975112) |
Camera used to take the photo | {{Taken with}} and/or a category | captured with (P4082) | Add the the item for the camera used. For example Kodak EasyShare DX7590 Zoom (Q6425107) |
